Ayke van Laethem 134de98ba5 compiler, runtime: optimize zero-sized allocations
Instead of referring to an unused global, use a constant value. This is
safe even when using `-gc=none` (since no actual memory gets allocated)
which wasn't the case before. It should also reduce binary size by a few
bytes for most programs.

Nia Waldvogel d8b6b257f4 compiler: simplify createObjectLayout
This simplifies the process of constructing and encoding layout bitmaps.
Instead of creating big integers and merging them, we can create a pre-sized bitmap and set positions within it.

This also changes the encoding logic to allow larger layouts to be encoded inline.
We would previously not encode a layout inline unless the size was less than the width of the data field.
This is overly conservative.
A layout can be encoded inline as long as:
1. The size fits within the size field.
2. All set bits in the bitmap fit into the data field.

dkegel-fastly 8135be4e90 GNUmakefile: add spellfix target, use it. (#4387)
TODO: Remove the go.mod/go.sum in internal/tools once doing so doesn't break CI (e.g. once we drop support for go 1.19)

* builder/cc1as.h: fix typo found by 'make spell'
* GNUmakefile: remove exception for inbetween, fix instance now found by 'make spell'
* GNUmakefile: remove exception for programmmer, fix instance now found by 'make spell'
* go.mod: use updated misspell. GNUmakefile: add spellfix target, use it.
* ignore directories properly when invoking spellchecker.
* make spell: give internal/tools its own go.mod, as misspell requires newer go
* make lint: depend on tools and run the installed revive
(which was perhaps implied by the change that added revive to internal/tools,
but not required in GNUmakefile until we gave internal/tools its own temporary go.mod)
* .github: now that 'make spell' works well, run it from CI
* GNUmakefile: make spell now aborts if it finds misspelt words, so what it finds doesn't get lost in CI logs
* GNUmakefile: tools: avoid -C option on go generate to make test-llvm15-go119 circleci job happy, see
https://cs.opensource.google/go/go/+/2af48cbb7d85e5fdc635e75b99f949010c607786
* internal/tools/go.mod: fix format of go version to leave out patchlevel, else go complains.

Ayke van Laethem 1da1abe314 all: remove LLVM 14 support
This is a big change: apart from removing LLVM 14 it also removes typed
pointer support (which was only fully supported in LLVM up to version
14). This removes about 200 lines of code, but more importantly removes
a ton of special cases for LLVM 14.

Ayke van Laethem c41a212712 wasm: avoid miscompile with ThinLTO
I found that when I enable ThinLTO, a miscompilation triggers that had
been hidden all the time previously. The bug appears to happen as
follows:

 1. TinyGo generates a function with a runtime.trackPointer call, but
without an alloca (or the alloca gets optimized away).
 2. LLVM sees that no alloca needs to be kept alive across the
runtime.trackPointer call, and therefore it adds the 'tail' flag.
One of the effects of this flag is that it makes it undefined
behavior to keep allocas alive across the call (which is still safe
    at that point).
 3. The GC lowering pass adds a stack slot alloca and converts
    runtime.trackPointer calls into alloca stores.

The last step triggers the bug: the compiler inserts an alloca where
there was none before but that's not valid as long as the 'tail' flag is
present.

This patch fixes the bug in a somewhat dirty way, by always creating a
dummy alloca so that LLVM won't do the optimization in step 2 (and
possibly other optimizations that rely on there being no alloca
instruction).

Ayke van Laethem 36d1198115 compiler: refactor alloca/lifetime/wordpack code into separate package
This code is required by transformation passes which are being moved
into a separate package, but is too complicated to simply copy.
Therefore, I decided to move them into a new package.

Ayke van Laethem 3b0ed63c29 all: refactor compile options
Move most of the logic of determining which compiler configuration to
use (such as GOOS/GOARCH, build tags, whether to include debug symbols,
panic strategy, etc.) into the compileopts package. This makes it a
single source of truth for anything related to compiler configuration.

It has a few advantages:

  * The compile configuration is independent of the compiler package.
This makes it possible to move optimization passes out of the
compiler, as they don't rely on compiler.Config anymore.
  * There is only one place to look if an incorrect compile option is
    used.
  * The compileopts provides some resistance against unintentionally
picking the wrong option, such as with c.selectGC() vs c.GC() in the
    compiler.
  * It is now a lot easier to change compile options, as most options
    are getters now.

Ayke van Laethem 152caa3b0a compiler: do not create stack objects for functions that don't allocate
This is a useful optimization for targets with the portable garbage
collector. It isn't as big as you might guess but it does optimize
functions inside the garbage collector itself (which obviously should
not allocate). WebAssembly output in one test is about 1% smaller.

Ayke van Laethem c66d979ba3 compiler: avoid some stack frames when this is unnecessary
Some instructions do not create new values, they transform existing
values in some way (bitcast, getelementptr, etc.). Do not store them in
the stack object.

This lowers the size of the repulsion demo from 100kB to 98kB (with a
baseline of 72kB for the leaking GC). That's a useful reduction in file
size.
